Exploring Students’ Presences in Online English Classroom: A Discourse Analysis

This study aims to determine how student presences (teaching, social, and cognitive) manifest in online discussions. takes place a pragmatic class English Magister Class where the researcher is also one of students. The case design was applied this qualitative study, sample taken purposively, consisting 18 students two lecturers. data findings were analyzed using Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC) act taxonomy by Herring et al. (2005). results revealed that from three Community Inquiry (CoI), not all involved discussion, problems or questions raised reached resolution stage as goal cognitive presence. However, there thing can be underlined master's authors encountered no activity form rejecting, which speech says they do agree with other people's opinions, so look like follow direction discussion has been presented facilitator.
